California is one of the top states for motorcycle accidents and fatalities, according to data from the Governors Highway Safety Association. According to the data, California has been experiencing a steady increase in motorcycle-related deaths every year since 2008, after a decade of decline. There are numerous possible causes attributed to this trend: more motorcycles on the road, a struggling economy and even warmer temperatures, but all we know for certain is that our state is experience a motorcycle accident epidemic. And one of the top offenders? Interstate 10.

The i-10 – Where Motorcycle Crashes Abound

It should come as no surprise that there are so many motorcycle accidents on the 10 freeway. This congested highway passes through some of our Southern California's most populous cities, from Los Angeles to San Bernardino. In fact, a comprehensive report from ABC News in Phoenix found that the i-10 is the deadliest highway from Phoenix to California.

One Recent Example – Fatal Motorcycle Crash in San Dimas

Just this week, a motorcyclist was killed on the i-10 in San Dimas, near Kellogg Drive. The accident reportedly took place Monday morning at around 4:30 a.m. The details are still vague, and the crash is under investigation, but we know that the motorcyclist collided with a big rig and died at the scene. Stories like these are all too common.

The i-10 is one of our state's busiest highways,” according to Nadrich,” and even outside of rush hour, the driving conditions can be perilous, especially for motorcyclists. In this case, we don't have all the facts, and we don't know who is at fault, but if investigators determine that the big rig operator was at fault, the victim's family may be entitled to compensation.

Staying Safe on the 10

If you regularly commute by motorcycle on the 10 freeway, be especially diligent. Stick to the speed limit, always wear your helmet, and ride defensively. Don't split lanes if traffic is moving faster than 30 miles per hour, and don't rush your commute. It may just save your life.
