Motorcycle accidents are increasing across the nation; if you follow my motorcycle accident blog, you know that I frequently allude to this alarming fact. Motorcycle deaths dipped by 37 percent between 2008 and 2010, but then jumped nearly 18 percent in 2011. And Murrieta has certainly felt the sting of this trend. According to a recent Valley News Report, there have been 47 serious injury motorcycle crashes in Murrieta over the past 3 years. About 10 percent of these crashes are attributed to DUI.
Murrieta – A New Effort to Reduce Motorcycle Crashes
So if you ride your hog within the city limits of Murrieta, what can you expect? For starters, the current motorcycle safety campaign is already in full swing, and is expected to continue until September 20th. According to reports, police will be increasing their patrols in areas that see frequently motorcycle activity.
Police will be on the lookout for motorcyclists who break the law and engage in risky maneuvers, and you can expect to be cited if you exceed the speed limit, run stop signs or engage in other infractions that are often taken for granted. Additionally, police will be on the lookout for other motorists who endanger motorcyclists.
If you plan on hitting the streets, just remember to be careful out there, and expect to be held to a higher-than-usual level of scrutiny by law enforcement. Of course, I would urge you to wear your helmet, ride safely and obey the laws at all times, if only for your own safety, but I recognize that it can sometimes be difficult to observe every single traffic law to the letter. We're only human, after all, but remember that one ill-fated moment can rock your entire world.
